"In 2013, I was honored to receive the [Foundation's] Commencement Award. The monetary award provided me with a personal finance buffer while I focused my efforts on securing full-time employment at a Financial Institution. In particular, the award’s financial support assisted with common day-to-day expenses until I secured a full-time offer from a major global bank’s Financial Crime Compliance department. The monetary award helped give me the flexibility to wait on an offer that most aligned with my interests and background at the time. My first role provided direct exposure to my business colleagues, which ultimately led me to accept my current role in the firm’s Global Banking business, managing Business Risk Management initiatives across the Americas region with a focus on the US and Brazil. In sum, the [ ]Commencement Award had a positive impact on my career and I will always be thankful for the generous support provided by the [Minority Bar Foundation]."
"Without the financial assistance of scholarships like the one I received from the Minority Bar [Foundation] law school would not have been possible for me. However, what was most beneficial about the [ ] scholarship was the interaction with the members of the [Foundation] during my matriculation at UB LAW. Through my interactions with those attorneys of color, it reaffirmed for me that my dream of becoming an attorney was possible and that I would be welcomed into a community of supportive attorneys who had a keen understanding of the challenges I faced in law school and those I would likely encounter in my career. The mentorship and guidance I received from members of the [Minority Bar Foundation] undoubtedly influenced me and bolstered the confidence I needed to begin my legal career. The words of encouragement and the lessons of collaboration and determination that I learned from the [Foundation] members I have carried with me throughout my career. Many thanks to the [Foundation]!"
"I was humbled and flattered to receive the WNY Minority Bar [Foundation's] scholarship. Throughout my time at UB Law School, this fantastic organization provided support which attributed to my positive law school experience and exposed me to leaders in the WNY community. I am thankful for the scholarship which helped mitigate the costs associated with moving to Washington DC, and most importantly -- I'm thankful for the mentors and friends I've acquired through the [Foundation's] network."
"During law school, the [Foundation] provided me with a support system. Being the first person in my family to attend graduate school and not having any attorneys in my family, the [Foundation] was an important resource for me as I navigated law school and the search for employment after law school. Being selected to receive the [Foundation's] Commencement Award at graduation last May was an honor. The scholarship assisted me financially over the summer as I studied for the bar exam. As I begin my career, I have tried to remain an active member of the [Minority Bar Foundation]. This past holiday season, I co-chaired the annual toy drive to benefit International School #45 located on the West Side of Buffalo. Looking back, I am beyond grateful for the many mentors I have had over the years because of the [Foundation] as they have each provided me with countless hours of mentoring and guidance and for that I will be forever grateful."
