A new article about Minority Bar Foundation secretary, Tom Beauford, who recently became CEO of the Buffalo Urban League. “There’s certain inequities there, and certainly right now, a lot of energy and resources being put toward correcting that,” he said. “There’s a lot of local talent here already that’s well-qualified and well-trained, but just may not be aware of these opportunities.
”Changing that, he said, means expanding networks to connect people beyond just who they know, and building confidence by pushing people a bit to take on those opportunities.“Sometimes we limit ourselves and someone might say, ‘I’m not sure if I’m qualified.’ That (requires) a push from outside,” he said. “And from the corporate side, it’s important to establish policies and programming that show we’re making a deliberate and conscious effort to recruit locally.”
